Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic Surgery has increased dramatically in popularity over the past 20 years and attitudes have changed as well.
Why Do People Seek Cosmetic Surgery?
People undergo Cosmetic Surgery for many reasons:
- They may want to look younger for professional or personal reasons.
- They may want to change a feature they never liked
Whatever the reason, the data doesn’t lie. Close to 20 million Cosmetic Surgery procedures were performed in the United States in 2017, according to a recent ASPS report. Pushing this growth is increasing patient awareness as well as technological advances.
Dr. Rosso says: “Not every procedure is appropriate for everyone. Treatments must be customized for the individual patient. Most patients have a specific complaint … a single facial or body feature that keeps them from feeling attractive.”
He adds: “Patients don’t have to live out their lives with disproportionately sized noses, protruding ears, or eyes that look prematurely aged. Almost all areas of the body can be effectively contoured, reduced or augmented as needed.”
Furthermore, as demand for Plastic Surgery continues to grow, medical and technological advancements are making the reshaping process much easier and more successful.
However, no matter what type of Plastic Surgery you are considering, the most important factor in its success is the Plastic Surgeon you choose.

Excessive, flabby skin underneath the upper arm is a real problem for many people, women especially. Not only is it a difficult area to reduce with weight loss, it does not always respond well to exercise.
The excessive skin under the arms becomes saggy, loose and unattractive, due to aging, genetics, and for those patients who have lost a dramatic amount of weight.
At Peninsula Plastic Surgery, we perform Arm Lift surgery to address these concerns.
If you are looking for fuller, more symmetrical breasts, Breast Augmentation may be for you. Many of our patients are women in their 20’s and 30’s without children, who have wanted the procedure since they were teenagers; others are moms who want to do something about their empty or saggy breasts; then, there are some patients who want to replace their old implants.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast Augmentation is a method of enlarging the breasts by using breast implants. The implants are inserted through a small, inconspicuous incision. They may be placed behind the chest muscle or behind the breast tissue. This procedure is used for patients with small or unequal breasts or patients who have lost breast volume through age, pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Dr. Rosso recommends waiting until the breasts are fully developed before performing breast enlargement surgery.
The implants used for primary breast enhancements are either saline or silicone implants. The implants can be inserted through incisions made around the nipple-areola area or under the breast crease. Depending on your physical examination and past history Dr. Rosso will determine which implant type is appropriate for you. Additional procedures, such as breast lifts can be performed in combination with breast enlargement to correct droopy breasts with low-lying nipples. The need for such an operation can be determined at the time of your consultation.
Breast Implants Size
Once you have decided to undergo breast enlargement, the next consideration is breast size. Keep in mind that there is no correct breast size. Your new size will be judged by your body frame and preference. Implant sizes do not come in A, B, C, or D cups. Your new size will be a combination of what you started with, plus the implant volume. Remember, bra sizes may vary based on different styles and manufacturers. Your new bra size will ultimately depend on comfort and appearance. After breast surgery, your breasts will appear larger as a result of swelling but will decrease in size, and drop to a more natural position over time.
Recovery
Most patients will recover within 6 to 8 weeks at which time they may resume light exercise. Strenuous exercise and upper body lifting can be resumed in 7 to 14 weeks. As with all cosmetic procedures, the final result will be apparent after about one year.
Breast Augmentation can be done as an out-patient procedure under general anesthesia and usually takes one to two hours.
Often times, after having children or losing a large amount of weight, you lose volume and tone in your breasts. If you wish to have your breasts higher and firmer, a Breast Lift may be for you.
What Is Breast Lift ?
A Breast Lift changes the shape of your breast, repositions the nipple to a higher level, and may reduce the nipple areola to a more pleasing size. If you have lost breast volume and would like to add more fullness, implants may be inserted during surgery.
Dr. Rosso recommends waiting until the breasts are fully developed before performing breast enlargement surgery.
Breast Lifts are performed in several ways, depending on the size of your breasts and the amount of sagging. The incisions used in this procedure may be customized based on the size and shape of your breast, therefore they may vary from patient to patient. During this surgery, Dr. Rosso removes excess skin, lifts the nipple, and pulls together and sutures the breast, which improves the shape and contour. The incision lines are designed so that they will be concealed under the bra. However, the resulting scars are permanent but should fade over time.
Recovery
Most patients will recover within 6 to 8 weeks at which time you may resume light exercise. Strenuous exercise and upper body lifting can be resumed in 7 to 14 weeks. As with all cosmetic procedures, the final result will be apparent in about one year.
Ear Pinning or Otoplasty is a Plastic Surgery procedure to reshape or reform the ear. The most common condition that warrants an Otoplasty is the prominent ear even though other ear malformations exist. The prominent ear protrudes or sticks out too far from the head. Through an incision made in the back of the ear, Dr. Rosso removes and reshapes the cartilage to restore normal ear shape.
Otoplasty is commonly done on children once the ear is fully developed (ages 4-6). However, it is also performed on adults. When the procedure is done on children we use general anesthesia. When the procedure is done on adults we use sedation and local anesthesia. The ears are usually bandaged for 10 to 14 days, and while asleep a headband is used for up to 2 months. This procedure can be done on one or both ears, as needed.
Recovery
With time, gravity, and sun exposure you may experience loosening of the skin and underlying facial muscles leading to a tired or aged appearance. Facelifts are usually done on men and women in their 40’s-60’s to give a rejuvenated look. However, results are favorable for those in the 60-80 age range as well.
What Is a Facelift ?
A Facelift reshapes or contours the lower two-thirds of the face. This Cosmetic Surgery procedure provides tightening of the skin and muscles to improve cheek, jowl, and neck contour.
Dr. Rosso uses the latest techniques in facial contouring to achieve the best results. Incisions are hidden behind the hairline, inside the ear, as well as behind the ear and scalp leaving patients with minimal, hidden scars. After underlying muscles are tightened and fat suctioned, the excess skin is pulled up and back, trimmed, and sutured into place. Liposuction and underlying muscle tightening where needed will leave you with a natural, youthful, well-rested appearance. Finally, a neck lift is part of the lower Facelift to rejuvenate the neck and jawline.
Recovery
After surgery, a bandage will be wrapped around your head to help relieve some swelling. Drains are used to help drain fluids that may accumulate and are removed the following day. After 48 hours the bandages will be removed, and you will be able to shower. Stitches in front of the ear are removed within the first week, and the rest of the sutures are removed within two weeks. Makeup may be worn to conceal bruising. By 10 to 14 days non-strenuous work and light exercise may be resumed. After 4 to 6 weeks, more strenuous exercise may be resumed. The final results will be apparent within one year.
This Cosmetic procedure is done as an out-patient procedure. It usually takes 2 to 3 hours and it may be performed along with other facial procedures.

Whether you’ve recently had your first child or your children are all grown up, you’re probably used to putting the needs of your family first. But pregnancy, childbirth, and the demands of motherhood can all take a toll on your body, and sometimes diet and exercise alone aren’t enough to restore it to its original shape.
Common procedures to get your pre-baby body back are:
– breast lift
– breast augmentation
– tummy tuck
– liposuction
If you feel that your nose is not in proportion to the rest of your face, you may want to consider Nose Surgery. By enhancing the general appearance of your nose, you will achieve a more natural balance between your nose and other facial features.
What Is Nose Surgery ?
Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty is a Plastic Surgery procedure that reshapes the nose. It may be performed to reduce the dorsal hump, modify the nasal tip, narrow the nostrils, reduce the width of the nose, change the angle between the nose and the upper lip, and straighten or narrow the nasal bridge. It is usually recommended to wait until facial growth is complete before undergoing nasal surgery.
Septoplasty is a nasal operation that is used to straighten or reshape the septum. It is performed on patients who have difficulty in breathing as a result of a mal-positioned septum. Septoplasty will not change the shape of the nose and can be performed alone or in addition to Rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty Approaches
Reduction Rhinoplasty Surgery: when bone or cartilage are removed in an effort to change the shape of the nose. This form of Rhinoplasty is the most common.
Augmentation Rhinoplasty Surgery: to enhance the nose by adding cartilage, bone, or implant material when nasal deficiency (loss of structure) is encountered. This form of Rhinoplasty is used in special cases.
Additional Options
Chin Augmentation is sometimes used in combination with Rhinoplasty to improve and enhance facial balance. This should be discussed with the Plastic Surgeon at the time of consultation.
Recovery
Swelling and bruising will last for 2 to 3 weeks. Nasal packing (if used) will stay in the nostrils for 1-3 days. Any stitches inside the nose will dissolve by themselves. Any stitches left outside the nose and the nasal splint will be removed in about 7 days. You may return to work or school and resume light exercise within 10 days. You may resume rigorous exercise within 6-8 weeks. As each month passes you will notice a gradual improvement. The final result will be evident within one year. Rhinoplasty is permanent.
Rhinoplasty may be performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. The surgery takes 2 hours or less depending on the extent of the surgery.
