    Chin Liposuction Explained

    Chin Liposuction Explained

Chin Liposuction usually goes along with neck liposuction. Chin and neck liposuction are minimally invasive surgical procedures to shape the neckline by eradicating the excess fat below the chin and the sagging skin which makes people look older.

Since the chin and neck are prone to store excessive fat, especially as we gain weight and we age, chin liposuction offers some promising benefits such as refinement of the jawline and the enhancement of the neckline and silhouette. This woman writes how she determined she needed chin lipo.

    The Procedure

Chin liposuction can be done through traditional surgery or by laser.

    1. Traditional cosmetic surgery procedure – Generally, a small incision is performed in the chin area. Intraoral (an incision made inside the mouth) is sometimes performed by some plastic surgeons. A micro-tube is inserted through the ports to suction out the fat, and this suctioning of fat should take 30 minutes to perform. After the procedure, a dressing will be placed underneath the chin. Then, the head and neck will be wrapped with an elastic bandage. The elastic is then removed the following day, but an elastic garment is to be worn for about two weeks until the drainage resolves.
    2. Laser Procedure – This is a relatively new technique to perform chin liposuction. A probe is utilized as well and instead of using a liposuction cannula as used in the traditional surgery, a laser is used. This laser procedure would not do a suction process. This laser method will use light energy to burn the fat cells.

How long does the chin liposuction procedure last?

It would only take about an hour.

    Is it painful?

During the operation, the patient is under anesthesia so there is no pain. Afterwards, some people may feel a bit of discomfort but it depends on the pain tolerance of each patient.

Who is a good candidate for a chin liposuction?

This procedure is good for both men and women having excess fat under the chin known as “double chin.” The ideal candidate still has skin elasticity and muscle tone. Otherwise, people who have lost their skin’s elasticity, having lax muscles and extra skin may need to go do a neck lift or mini facelift.

How big is the chance of having sagging skin after this procedure?

Taking care of one’s skin is a big factor in preventing sagging skin. Normally, one is asked to wear a medical facial garment such as a chinstrap day and night for one to two weeks that should make the skin become firm.

    When will I see results?

Results can be seen right after the procedure, or after the bandage is removed.
